MMATraining.com is reporting that Shawn Tompkins opponent at XFA in September may be none other than UFC hall of famer Ken Shamrock.

“I Just signed a 3 fight deal with XFA, which is a K-1 kickboxing promotion in Las Vegas. I’ll be doing my first fight September 26th. Between September, December and February. They are looking at my first fight being Ken Shamrock”.

As we reported on June 18th, Tompkins signed a contract to fight for Xtreme Fighting Association but at the time there was no rumored opponent. Tompkins has dabbed into the MMA scene on occasion though his record doesn’t represent his skills. In 01-02 Tompkins fought for UCC (Now TKO Championship Fighting) four times going 0-4 with all of his losses coming by TKO.

It’s been nearly seven years since Tompkins fought MMA but during that time he’s produced fighters such as Mark “The Machine” Hominick, Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout, Chris “The Polish Hammer” Horodecki, and Chris “The Menace” Clements.

Tompkins big break came when he left Team Tompkins in London to become the coach at Team Quest in Temecula, California. During his time at Team Quest he saw fighters such as Dan Henderson and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou score victories over Wanderlei Silva, Ricardo Arona, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

After his short stint at Team Quest, Tompkins assumed a full-time position as head coach at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tompkins is currently regarded as one of the top trainers in the business operating out of a school that is home to Frank Trigg, Forrest Griffin, Randy “The Natural” Couture, Tyson Griffin, Mac Danzig, John Alessio, Gina Carano, Jay Hieron, Martin Kampmann, Gray Maynard, Mike Pyle, and Mike Whitehead among others.
