In a recent audio interview on UltimeFanatic.com, TKO Championship Fighting CEO Stephane Patry announced that Steve Bosse would be facing James “The Colossus” Thompson at TKO 35.

Bosse, a native of Iberville, Quebec, possesses a mixed martial arts record of 3-1. Bosse holds stoppage victories over UFC veteran Wes “The Whole Show” Sims, Jody Burke, and David Fraser. Bosse’s sole loss came to Icho Larenas at TKO 31: Young Guns.

James “The Colossus” Thompson, a native of England, possesses a mixed martial arts record of 14-9-0. Thompson, a veteran of PRIDE, holds victories over the likes of Don “The Predator” Frye, “Giant” Silva, and Hidehiko Yoshida.

Bosse, the hockey enforcer turned mixed martial artist, has seen his last two bouts be laced with controversy. At TKO 31: Young Guns, Bosse was controlling Larenas for the better part of two rounds when the fight was stopped due to an accidental thumb to the eye. Larenas told the referee he couldn’t see and instead of the bout being stopped, Larenas was given five minutes to recover. Larenas answered the call after the five minutes and came back to score a stoppage victory in the third round.

Most recently at TKO 34: Sims vs. Bosse fans were able to see Bosse fight twice in the span of 30 minutes. In their heavyweight showdown, Bosse got top control on Sims early and their bout and while he was working away from the top he grabbed the fence and instead of deducting a point, the referee called off the fight sending Sims into a tirade. Sims kicked the ref and complained and to everyone’s surprise the bout was restarted. After the restart, Bosse took Sims to the canvas and secured an ankle lock forcing the referee to jump in without Sims tapping.

Sticking with the topic of controversy, Bosse’s opponent, James Thompson, recently received the short end of the stick in his bout with EliteXC heavyweight Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson. Thompson controlled the first two rounds of the bout and in the third Slice rocked Thompson with a hard combination and instead of waiting to see if Thompson could recover, referee Dan Miragliaotta jumped in and stopped the bout. Normally most people wouldn’t question the stoppage but the fact was Thompson had been that situation numerous times throughout the bout and each time he recovered.

During the interview on UltimeFanatic, Stephane Patry also stated that Stephane Vigneault would face Hatsu Hioki and UFC veteran Mark “The Machine” Hominick would go up against Thierry Quenneville. IFL star Chris “The Polish Hammer” Horodecki is also expected to appear on the card.

TKO 35 is scheduled for October 3, 2008 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. Check out our rumors section for the latest TKO 35 card.

Sounds like the refs in the TKO promotion need lots of training to me. And I find it hard to take seriously a fight that involves a hockey player who it appears has a limited skill set.

  2. Scott White Says:

Well the referees in general needs work. Aside from Yves Lavigne and a few others, the talent pool is pretty weak.

As for Steve Bosse, I give the guy credit. He’s spent the last year and a half working his game hard and even gone to Thailand to hone his Muay Thai skills.

  3. Gary Whittaker Says:

I emailed Simba. he said that the deal is not final yet, and still has “some details to be worked out”. I knew that was the same for Thierry when I spoke to him. That’s why I had alluded to some potential big news, which Stephane P spoke about, but that is also is subject to change.

If it does happen, it will be an amazing card, and one I am getting excited to cover!
